The Farmer

... and the family!  Besides tending to their massive garden, Jan develops kickin' recipes while Troy, Savannah, Demi, Indie and Ross are excellent taste testers!

State College resident Dan Kyper spent his youth on a farm.  From a young age, he helped his father grow feed and care for their animals  -  all while actively participated in wholesome barnyard mischief.  As a young man, Dan left the farm he called home to make his way in the world.

A loving marriage, two grown sons, a daughter-in-law, two granddaughters and 3 successful careers later, Dan has returned to the acres of his roots.  Together, with his wife Jan, they have created Koreo Farm on the land of his family's heritage and Dan's childhood playground.

The Meats

We have proudly chosen to raise heritage breeds of livestock - including cattle, lamb and pigs - sometimes chickens & turkeys, too!

Koreo Farm provides healthy and sustainable meats that you can feel good about!

Our livestock, from birth to harvest, live in a low stress, nurturing environment at our family run farm just outside of State College - in the area known as "Happy Valley". They are pasture-raised throughout their lifetime and are grass-fed and grass-finished. We began this venture to produce a healthier, tastier meat for our family.  Soon, we found out there was a high demand from others for the same.  Hence, we began to increase our herds. Now, all of the meats we raise at Koreo Farm are available for sale.

We raise our animals as naturally and humanely as possible, allowing them to roam on hilly pastures in the open air and sunshine. Our livestock eat an abundance of fresh grass with an accessible unlimited source of clean water.  They freely forage, enjoying a natural diet -  creating healthy, rich tasting meat.

Our heritage breeds have unique genetic traits that are seldom seen in the modern breeds of today. These breeds have been providing delicious meats for many generations. Our chosen breeds are docile, intelligent, muscular and productive. We have found them to be extremely hardy and more flavorful.

THE PROCESS

Both USDA certified, Mark's Custom Meats & Rising Spring Meat Company are our local processors of choice.

The process is simple - reserve & pay deposit to Koreo Farm for your desired portion, then choose your butcher for custom processing. We recommend Mark's Custom Meats or Rising Spring Meat Company.  We take care of contacting butcher and arranging a harvest date. We then transport the animal from the farm to the facility at NO additional charge.

It is important to note that both of our chosen processors are within  a half an hour of the farm.  This short distance in transport means reduced stress on the animal, contributing to a better quality meat.

Orders are filled on a first come, first serve basis with priority given to our existing customers.

Final payment to Koreo will be determined once animal is harvested. Additional payment for processing goes directly to your butcher. Once the meat dry-aged and processed, it will be available for pick up at your chosen butcher shop.

More specific pricing and butchering information can be found on each individual order page.

Here at Koreo Farm, we have chosen to breed and raise Belted Galloway cattle ("Belties").  we work hard to maintain the purity of this breed.

Belted Galloway cattle lends itself well to a diet of grasses. They are excellent foragers with a gentle temperament. Their beef is know for it's rich flavor and juicy, tender texture.

Belties are leaner and healthier than other breeds and provide fine-textured beef that is low in saturated fat.

Katahdin Sheep are Koreo Farm's breed of choice.  The breed's origin is from the New England area of the United States.  The sheep have a hairy coat as opposed to the wool of more common sheep varieties.

Katahdin are hardy and adaptable with excellent mothering capabilities and a calm disposition. Katahdin lambs produce a high quality,  naturally lean meat with a very mild flavor.

Katahdins are medium in size, weighing from 120–250 pounds.

Koreo Pork comes from the Hampshire breed - a popular breed for family farmers due to their hardiness, vigor, fertility and foraging characteristics.

One of the oldest American breeds, Hampshires have a wide white belt that continues down the front legs on a black hog, matching the look of our cows perfectly!

Hampshires produce a tender, fine-grained meat, with perfect marbling, fine texture and plenty of rich flavor.

At Koreo Farm, our poultry breed of choice is the Cornish Cross.  Fast growing and big breasted, the Cornish Cross breed of chicken gives you high quality, tasty meat that is high in protein.

The Cornish Cross breed of chicken matures to be an average of 8 to 10 pounds.  They produce tender, juicy meat.

Our chickens are raised in a stress-free grazing environment with an abundant supply of grasses, fresh water and crisp mountain air.
